In the back of my head I've been trying to figure out how they were going to work in this extra episode of Survivor...now I know...a non-episode! And they didn't even try to justify it as a clip show (ok, that doesn't make any sense, but I'm babbling).

Kathy and I were SO hoping that Terry had given the idol to Dannielle. It would probably have been really stupid, but in retrospect, it would have worked.

One of the reasons that I keep watching this show is that I think that it has the best game design of all of these shows. They keep shaking things up just a bit year to year.

I wonder, though, if they realized just how powerful the idol mechanic was. It would be simple to assume that it was a one-time savior, and that it could be burned out one week, and that person voted out the next. But there was a rub. If it was revealed, instead of revoting, the person with the second most votes (likely a person in the majority voting block) would bet eliminated. So that idol would have pulled down the majority block in addition to protecting the holder.

Of course, we only really saw it tonight when the weren't willing to chance voting for Terry. Which is why he should have GIVEN THE IDOL TO DANI...oh well, maybe she can make some fire.

Phew. I was hoping there was a redeeming reason you were contributing to the downfall of American TV by supporting reality shows.

Sorry -- I know you're a big Terry fan, but I totally despise the guy now.

In his favor, I will say the following. His handling of voting out his own tribemate (the astronaut) before the merge was honorable and commendable. He is a powerhouse at the challenges.

BUT...

I get such an overwhelming sense of entitlement from the guy that I can't stand it. I now think the reason he got along so well with his old tribe is that they were all more than willing to treat him as their leader. Terry thinks he deserves some certain level of respect, and if you don't give it to him... he's an ass.

In fairness, if Terry has misbehaved somewhat, you can forgive some of it because his "lone wolf" status, fighting against the surviving Casaya members, brought it out in him. He WAS ostracized by them, and they certainly pushed him in the direction he's gone.

But still, Terry is the stereotypical ass who thinks that just because he's older than you, it follows that he's wiser and knows more than you. He is certainly not "demeaning toward women" (what a crock of shit comment that was from Aras, but we'll get to him in a moment), but he IS "ageist," absolutely 100%. Screw that.

And even though Aras handled the situation COMPLETELY wrong and immaturely, he was right about one thing: Terry was turning into a total whiner when he finally lost a challenge. He was behaving badly even before he lost. We haven't seen somebody haul off and attack another contestant like that since that one psycho guy from a few Survivors back choked the other contestant on the balance beam. Not cool. That makes Terry and ageist AND a bully. Two things I hate.

Now, Aras is a punk too. While I don't accept that Aras should be showing Terry any particular degree of respect for his age, Aras doesn't really show the respect that would be due any human being. Aras is a young punk.

These two have thrown so much into this stupid rivalry with each other that I don't want either to win.

Danielle has coasted dumbly under the radar like so many "cute chicks" in past Survivors that I will vomit if she wins.

Fortunately, I'm not rooting for Cirie purely by process of elimination, though. At every turn, she has showed she is actually PLAYING THE GAME. She has worked the social politics. She has seen all the strategic angles. She has always known who is the right person to eliminate to advance HERSELF in the game, and she has always managed to do it without getting the victim mad at her (with Shane being the exception). Cirie went from being on the chopping block back in episode 3 to being in the final four. And she did NOT do it by coasting under the radar. She did it by working the system every step of the way.

Add to that the fact that everything she said at tribal council last night is totally true. She HAS grown enormously as a person in the game. She has learned things about herself, and learned that she is capable of more than she thought.

I cannot remember ever rooting for a Survivor contestant to win it all more than I'm pulling for Cirie. EVER.

I'm hoping the "flame gods" are on her side on Sunday.

Cirie has been a great social player...and from a certain point of view, you can argue that if you aren't at least an able social player, you are a bad Survivor player as you'll never win the big prize. I wonder how many votes have rewarded the physical/intellectual player vs. the number of votes that have been social/bitterness votes.

Cirie killing the fire dancer might have been one of the strongest social plays I've seen on the game.

Terry has managed to swing only one total player the whole game, and only because the idol bullied her into it this week...and it still didn't help.

All of that being said, a lot of the reason Cirie made it through the middle of the game (totally opinion) is because she was no threat to anyone and her team didn't lose any challenges that would have jeapordized her. I have a much harder time cheering for that.

We've seen other people win from that stance before though (that woman in the aweful peach outfit), as they get towed along because people need non-threats in the game to make it to the round of 3 (and 2). Cirie > than that woman because of the move on the fire dancer, in any case.

Besides, Terry can't possibly beat the curse of the car. At this point as long as it isn't the punk, I'm ok with it.
