Nothing too deep here. Just wanted to report that having watched Closer and Garden State in the last week or so, it was in fact the crushing poo that Star Wars became that made Natalie Portman look like a bad actor, not her actually being a bad actor.
Other people may have realized this, but I hadn't had a chance to see anything she'd been in since EII and then EIII, so I'm sure you could understand my concern.

She's just so beautiful. I can't get over it.
She was a prodigy, as witnessed in "Leon/The Professional." It isn't that she is bad in SW, but that George Lucas makes good actors look bad. It takes an Alec Guinness or a Liam neeson to stand up through that Lucas-dreck and still act dignified.
Even Hayden Christiansen was alright in Shattered Glass. But that was probably a fluke.
she was just fabulous in closer. she and clive owen really made that movie.
